Blog Assignment # 3: Character/Theme
The character that I am most drawn to in this story so far is Dr.Jekyll. I feel that Dr.Jekyll is a very interesting character because of the way he acts. Throughout the story he seems to be a very strange and secretive person. He also witholds information and secrets that nobody knows about yet, which gives him a questionable personality. When his long time friend Mr.Utterson reads his will he says that if he were to disappear in 3 months that he wants everything to go towards Mr.Hyde.This clearly bothers Mr.Utterson and tells him that something is strange. This character represents the theme that long-term friendships could turn out to bogus because of one persons secrets.

I agree with your theme. Your right because Mr. Utterson wants to know what is going on with Dr. Jekyll but he doesn't say anything to anyone. In a way thought Dr. Jekyll is also mysterious. You never know when his mood can change, one day he's happy and then next he's gloomy. But even when he is happy he keeps his secrets to himself.
ReplyDeleteI agree with what you said about Dr.Jekyll having a questionable personalality. Each action that occurs between Dr. Jekyll and another character is always creepy because he can be nice one moment and distant and weird the next. Just like that moment we discussed in class today when Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Utterson were having a converstaion through the window and the next moment his got quite strange looking and then he became distant. It is moments like these that give the reader a not so good vibe about Dr. Jekyll. I like the use of the vocab word bogus in your post!
